With its "Respect The Van" advertising campaign, the Honda Odyssey embraces the form and function of the minivan and showcases the true beauty and versatility of this convenient people-carrier.
To start, all levels of the 2009 Honda Odyssey come equipped with a formidable 3.5L V6 VTEC engine and 5-speed automatic transmission which provides comparable power and cleaner emissions than others in its class. In addition to the smooth, powerful ride, the Odyssey also outshines its competitors in interior details and styling. From the countless seating configurations to the available satellite navigation, hands-free Bluetooth and DVD entertainment system, the Odyssey provides all the features expected of a minivan.
The EX edition adds an 8-way power adjustable drivers seat and motorizes the dual sliding doors. It also adds a second-row "Plus-One" removable seat to increase the passenger capacity to eight. The third row utilizes a "magic seat" that disappears into the floor with one easy motion. Tri-zone automatic climate control and steering wheel-mounted audio controls are also part of the EX package.
Step up to the EX-L edition and Honda adds VCMT (variable cylinder management technology) which activates or deactivates certain engine cylinders to meet the driver's demands to increase fuel economy and yet provide power when needed. The upgrade to the EX-L edition also includes active noise cancellation which uses the vehicle's stereo to cancel wind and road noise in order to create an even quieter ride. The Odyssey EX-L features a power sunroof, leather seats, adjustable steering wheel and XM Satellite radio. A power liftgate is new for 2009.
The top of the line Touring edition dazzles with body colored front and rear parking sensors where the satellite navigation screen doubles as rearview camera display. The rear-seat DVD entertainment system with a 9-inch drop-down display and wireless headphones as well as satellite-linked navigation system are standard equipment at this level.
Across the board safety features include anti-lock brakes, traction control, dual stage front airbags and side curtain air bags with a roll-over sensor.
The Honda Odyssey makes no qualms about the fact it is a van, instead it utilizes cutting edge style, innovative sophistication and even a bit of fun.
